چکیده

Numbers of cells, of mitotic figures, and of degeneration sites have been counted in dorsal root ganglia and ventral horns during the development of the opossum, from embryonic to pouch-young stages. Tn the embryo, from forelimb bud stages onwards, the cervico-brachialganglia growrapidly, at first with very high mitotic rates (about 5 %) and little cell degeneration. One day before birth, cell death is widespread through the whole series though cell numbers at all levels continue to increase. In the new-born, the growth of brachial ganglia is checked by very high local rates of cell death. In the cord, cells of the lateral motor columns, or ventral horns arise by outward migration of cells from the basal half of the mantle layer. In the later embryo, these cells are recognizable at cervico-brachial levels during their migration, and are then accompanied by degenerating cells, the axial distribution of which foreshadows that of the lateral column of the new-born. In the pouch-young, there is a slow loss of neurons from dorsal root ganglia and from ventral horns. This begins later at lumbo-sacral than at cervico-brachial levels. Comparison of these results with data from other species emphasizes the variety of patterns in neural development among tetrapods.

Role of a voltage-sensitive calcium channel blocker on inhibition of apoptosis in sensory neurons of cultured dorsal root ganglia in adult rat

Introduction: Under pathological conditions, abnormal increase in intracellular calcium concentrations is believed to induce cell death. In the present study, a voltage-sensitive calcium channel blocker (loperamide hydrochloride) was used to investigate its role in inhibition of apoptosis in sensory neurons of cultured spinal dorsal root ganglia (DRG). Methods: L5 DRG from adult rats were di...

Collagen as Adherent Substratum and Inducer of Dorsal Root Ganglia Outgrowth

Neurite outgrowth from dorsal root ganglion (DRG) explants is a method of evaluating neurotrophic activity of growth factors. When complete medium containing collagen was supplemented with nerve growth factor (NGF) DRG outgrowth was observed after 18 h. In the absence of NGF and in the presence of collagen, the DRG outgrowth took place after 72 h. In wells not supplemented with collagen gel in ...

Fibronectin expression in the developing human spinal cord, nerves, and ganglia.

AIM Analysis of developmental role of fibronectin during differentiation of the human spinal cord, nerves, and ganglia. METHODS Seven normal human embryos and fetuses between the 7th and 9th developmental week and a 9-week fetus with cervical spina bifida were histologically examined on hematoxylin and eosin stained serial paraffin sections of thoracic axial segments. Monoclonal antibody to t...

Effect of Nano-eugenol and Aerobic Exercise Against the Streptozotocin Toxicity and Inflammatory Mediators P38-MAPK, NPY, and A-Rα2A in the Dorsal root Ganglia of Diabetic Rats

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of nano-eugenol combined with aerobic exercise against the streptozotocin toxicity and inflammatory mediators P38-MAPK, NPY and A-Rα2A in the dorsal root ganglia of diabetic rats. Methods: Twenty-five, 8-week-old Wistar male rats were divided into 5 groups: 1) normal control group (normal model); 2) diabetic control group (diabet...

The effect of crocin (a derivative of Crocus sativus L.) on neural development and regeneration of rat: in vivo and in vitro study

In this study, the effect of crocin, a substance found in Crocus sativus L. stigmata on nervous system development and regeneration was investigated. Crocin is a glycosyl ester of the polyene dicarboxylic acid crocetin and is one of the few families of carotenoids found in nature, which are freely soluble in water. In the first experiment, the effect of crocin (30 microM, 60 microM and 120 micr...
